I have to admit, the sound from this headset is the best that I have heard in a long time. There’s a reason why game sound is recorded using Sennheiser equipment. If you are a gamer and an audiophile, this should be your choice. Read the full Sennheiser PC 363D review and see if you agree that these are the best sounding headsets you have ever tried.
Wired for sound
While the time I spent in Germany wasn’t in a sound studio, I was able to spend time with German Engineers. It appears that their sound engineers are no less dedicated and professional. The Sennheiser PC 363D is the result of an incredible engineering group.
The Sennheiser engineers have created one of the best gaming experiences that I’ve had in quite a while. They have a feature that they call ergonomic acoustic refinement that doesn’t very nice job delivering clear, precise sound to your ears. The 7.1 channel surround from Dolby technologies gives you accurate positioning lets you pinpoint where the sounds are coming from.
I was very impressed with the sound came from these, I expect I could even do some mixing with these. The bass is strong without being booming, the mids are clear, more so than I’ve heard from any other gaming headset, and the highs are clear and precise. I would expect nothing less from Sennheiser as they are produced by a company that has an exceptional reputation for good sound.
The Sennheiser PC 363D surround sound gaming headset is designed for total immersion. That Dolby 7.1 surround sound is precise some of the best I’ve ever heard.
The build of this headset is plastic, which contributes nicely to the weight they weigh in at just 9.9 ounces ( 280 g). In this case, however, the plastic does not seem to be a detriment, this headset seems to be well built.
The ear cups are open style in the three level, velvety ear cushions provide very nice cushioning and allow your ears to breathe.
The engineers at Sennheiser have added extra frequencies both above and below the normal hearing frequencies. Normal hearing is 20 Hz at the low end, Sennheiser has provided 15 Hz. This adds to the visceral feeling of bass. You can feel the rumbles. The high-end of normal hearing tops out at about 20,000 Hz, again, Sennheiser is provided 8000 Hz above this range. The hypersonic range has been shown to provide additional stimulation to the brain. Will this give you an edge?
Microphone on the P 363D is a pleasure. Although it doesn’t have a fully articulating arm, it does provide enough adjustment so you can position the mic in front of your mouth.
The frequency response and clarity are great. It provides sound canceling so external room sounds are not picked up. This is one of the few microphones that I’ve tried that actually worked. While your voice is picked up very nicely, the other sounds in the room don’t bleed through.
I have mixed feelings about the microphone mute feature. At first it didn’t feel intuitive to me. Microphone muting is done by flipping the boom mic up. Once I was used to this and not trying to push a button somewhere, I found that it worked quite well.
This headset designed to work with PCs. Does come with two 3.5 mm jacks so it can be plugged into an adapter and used with both the PS4 and the Xbox One controllers. By connecting it this way, you do lose the Dolby 7.1 surround sound, that’s provided by the USB connector that comes with the Sennheiser headsets.
- Incredible sound reproduction
- Comfort is first rate
- Light and well made
- Surround sound is some of the best I have heard
- Designed for PC so not compatible with consoles without some monkeying around.
- Not overly thrilled with the microphone mute system. It does work well though.
- Open design doesn’t block out all external noise
- A bit on the pricey side but well worth the investment
If quality sound is your goal, the Sennheiser PC 363D will not disappoint you. These are nice open design headsets that provide you with a comfortable fit a high quality microphone and will give you hours of pleasure in game.
When I’m not gaming, I’m typically using Dragon NaturallySpeaking to dictate and I found that this microphone gives me quality and reduces the amount of time spent editing.
I use these for listening to music as well. Most gaming headsets will not provide good enough sound that I can fully enjoy my music. These are the exception.
I highly recommend the Sennheiser PC 363D.
