Ear Force X42 Headset Review

Ear Force x42 Details

Dimensions: 50mm diameter speakers with neodymium magnets
Audio: Mutes when signal lost.  Can hear your voice in the headphones.
XBox Connection: Digital Wireless RF carrier reception (2.4/5GHz) Dual Band Wi-Fi
Headset Battery: Dual AAA batteries
Battery Duration: up to 25 hours with Battery boost feature

What’s Awesome:

  • The headset’s sounds is impeccable with the 5.1 surround sound
  • You can set up the angles of the speakers, no one is gonna sneak up on you from behind
  • They solved the interference problem, no crackles or interference with your other Wi-Fi devices
  • Great wireless range, so it’s ideal for playing on large screen TV’s
  • The mic boom is removable so you can use it for playing tunes or anything non-mic related

What Sucks:

  • Out of the box pairing can be a challenge.  Even though it says they are paired mine weren’t.
  • Wish the Dual AAA batteries were a rechargeable pack but you can use NiMH rechargables.
  • Auto Shut down feature can be a pain.  Shuts down after 5 minutes of silence.

The Bottom Line:

This headset has everything that the X41 was missing.  The directional speakers are awesome and the chat boost makes sure you can be heard over the game.  The 5Gig WiFi means that all the cracks and pops are gone for absolutely clear sound.
